Needs acceleration physics

Great idea. Implemented with a great many features too (not a half-assed job like some would-have-been-good ideas that I've seen). Gameplay's a little glitchy though.

If you're up to the challenge, I'd suggest that you modify your game to use acceleration. If you think about it, you'll see that most console platformers do this. You'll have to rework your engine, but it'll look and play way better. It'll also make jumping across things less frustrating (because you'll decelerate at the peak of the jump, giving you more airtime and making it easier to manuever). Feel free to email me if you need help getting started on this.

Good luck! And keep up the good work!

Lambtaco responds:

Actually I've taken a physics class in school and acceleration is extremely simple. Unfortunately I started this game way too long ago to have done a more complicated engine. Thanks for the review.

Interesting

Limited replay value, but impressive actionscripting. I'm sure others are wondering as well, but did you code that yourself?

It would be awesome if you can find a way to integrate this into some greater movie/game. Good Luck.

Insane-Fan responds:

"but did you code that yourself?"
yes and no....

me and several mates have been working on this for a while. they'd deserve as much cred as me for this :D

Not what I expected...

but better than I had expected as well. That was really funny. Much different from the standard madlibs game. I was a little skeptical at first. The madlibs part seemed a bit weak until I realized what was going on. My sport was "fencing," so it kinda made sense. Keep up the good work.

TeknoGames responds:

Cool. Fencing is a very cool sport. It is very unique.

Come to think of it...

I HAVE wondered what Link would look like as a transformer ;) That was actually pretty funny. It was much more original than the standard dressup game. The objects were well drawn.

I thought it was a little annoying that things turned white when you moused over them, but that's just me. Keep up the good work.

madarkwasp responds:

Heh, who wouldn't wanna see Link dressed up as Prime? :P
Don't worry about the annoying white crap, I meant to make it the third frame when it turned white. Peace!

A very nice tutorial

I appreciate the fact that some NG users share their random techniques with the rest of the community. I've seen dozens of bad pre-loader tutorials, but this is unique, yet useful.

Joelasticot responds:

Thanks.

Nice

That was fun. It'd be cool if you could get different weapons and things like that. You could even add ammo limits and turn it into a more complex shooting gallery if you wanted.

One bug: the score variable doesn't reset when you start a new game.

343GSDotCom responds:

Soz bout that bug... I'll get it sorted right now!

Thanks for your review!

Unique

Well, it's unique. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It's very fast paced, very random, and very difficult. Without the spoiler, most of the games wouldn't make any sense at all. Still, it was original.

pacdude responds:

Unique is a good thing, I assure you.

Nice!

Very simple game, simple graphics, small file size, yet entertaining. It would make a good pre-loader game. It kills time and is addictive.

AcidDimensions responds:

Thanks. :)

Not a bad idea about making it a pre-loader. Unfortunately though, all my stuff seems to load instantly...

I'm sure I'll make a bigger game sometime though. ,)

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the review. :)

Potential

I think that this game has potential. It would be cool to have a two player option. You should also add things on the track like powerups or coins to collect.

If you really wanted, you could get add a ton of stuff. Have you ever played "Super Off Road" for the 16-bit systems? If not, download the ROM from somewhere. You earn money by winning races and use it to upgrade your car. You can collect money and Nitro boost fuel on the track. You might want to make the tracks a little bigger and more complicated (ie: more turns or obstacles). You could also add random decorations alongside the track.

This could turn out to be a really nice game.

flashmonkey responds:

thanx for the idea of two player mode. i will have to make the track a bit wider for that i think. i not too good at actionscript so powerups and coins are out of my league i think. i don't even know how to make a counter(score)??

I've learned a lot about animation and programming over the years, but wish I had more time to practice...
